Cinema is the most powerful medium of entertainment.The Indian film industry is one of the largest anf the oldest in the world with films made in different languages like in Tamil,Telegu,Malayalam,Kannada,Bhojpuri and so on.But the films called the Bollywood generate the maximum interest and also the biggest collection at the Box office.
The first feature film in India was produced by Dada Saheb Phalke which was the first silent movie.He laid the foundation for the film industry in India.This was followed by many films
which were made in many South Indian languages.
The 1930’s saw the emergence of the Talking Movie.The movie that became a big runaway success in those times was Alam AraThe films in those times were mostly musicals and films made in those times even had 40 songs.But the Song tradition in Indian films still continues to be very strong.
Later films expressing social issues came to ne made.One of the famous movie in those times was Devdas.Even today there are several remakes of this popular movie.Can we forget
were faced in society at that time.Satyajit Ray was the king of “Parallel Cinema”.His works are consideShahrukh Khan ,Madhuri Dixit and Aishwarya Rai in the modern Devdas remade by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.The costly and the extravagant sets had the audience spell bound as also evident by the Box office return of the movie.
Regional Cinema started gaining prominence.In the Tamil film industry “Chandralekha” became very famous for its costume extravagance.The famous Drum dance which featured in that movie
is talked about even today.
In the 1950’s there was the “Parallel Cinema” which talked about the problems thared to be masterpieces.Raj Kapoor,Guru Dutt were some of the famous directors of those times.
In the seventies came the Big Budget movies.Most of the films which became a run away hit in those times were Revenge and Action movies.Amitabh Bachan was considered the Angry Young Man.We still find those movies interesting.How can we not mention movies like Amar Akabar Antony,Yaadon Ki Bharat,Mukandar Ka Sikandar to name a
few.These film stars reached iconic stature.
During the late Eighties many musical love stories were made.The Gorgeous Sridevi in Mr India,The Doe Eyed Juhi Chawla in
Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, The Dusky Kajol and the Sexy Shilpa Shetty in Baazigar and The Electrifying Madhuri Dixit in Hum Aapke Hain Kaun.Rangeela made by Ram Gopal Varma became a rage with the youth and the songs still remain fresh in our heart.
Whatever may be the changes that have happened in our lives the one aspect which still play a special role in our hearts is still Cinema.With all of us engulfed by so many different kinds of problems Cinema has become a big source of entertainment.It is dream world we all like to be even if it is only for a few hours.
Technology now plays a major role.Films can now be made through the Digital MediumAnother important aspect is the marketing of the film.The release of the songs before the release of the movie and the various other gimmicks generate a lot of intrest among the viewers.The attractive locales are a feast to the eyes.All of us have become familiar with the famous Tulip garden of Switzerland after watching many Yash Chopra movies..
We now have Multiplex Theatres where watching a movie is an experience by itself.We no longer have to stand in queues to book our ticket but can do it effortlessly through the net.We no longer have to contend with smelly toilets and bad food and snacks.The snacks that w e need
while watching the movie can also be booked in advance.So we can keep eating the all favourite Popcorn while watching ShahRukh Khan romancing Priyanka Chopra.
We can enjoy watching the Badshas of Bollywood like ShahRukhKhan,Salman Khan,Sanjay Dutt and the Macho Akshay Kumar in a perfectly comfortable ambience .
So all you Movie Fans out there forget all your worries for the moment and go out and enjoy
the movie of your choice.
